Industry Affairs

Our Industry Affairs department focuses on Advocacy and Communications. South Africa Wine plays a pivotal role in advocating for the interests of its members on legislative, trade, and socio-economic matters. Through close collaboration with national, provincial, and district governmental departments, particularly within the agricultural and agro-processing and trade sectors, the department ensures that the wine industry’s concerns and priorities are effectively communicated and addressed. This includes actively participating in liquor legislation discussions, excise tax policies, harm reduction initiatives, and combatting illegal trade practices. Moreover, the department focuses on facilitating transparent and timely communication with members to keep them informed and empowered to make informed decisions.

Utilising various platforms such as WineLand Media, the South Africa Wine Industry Directory (SAWID), e-newsletters, and social media channels, as well as organising information days, workshops, seminars, and study groups, the department strives to disseminate relevant information and foster a strong sense of community and collaboration within the industry. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure South Africa Wine members have the knowledge and resources to navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and thrive in a competitive market.

Our market access focus includes the retention and inclusive growth of the domestic and export markets for wine, brandy and wine tourism.

By addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers, logistics, and international trade agreements, the organisation aims to improve and expand global trade opportunities for its members.

Domestically, the emphasis is on revitalising the local wine market through volume and value repositioning strategies underpinned by responsible trade and sustainability initiatives. In the export market, collaboration with Wines of South Africa (WoSA) facilitates market development strategies that enhance the visibility and competitiveness of South African wines on the global stage. The partnership with the South African Brandy Foundation underscores a commitment to promoting brandy alongside wine, ensuring its recognition and success within the industry.

The organisation’s focus on wine tourism not only creates an enabling environment but also leverages wine tourism to ensure that South Africa’s vibrant wine routes can attract local and international visitors. Collectively, these focus areas aim to bolster industry affairs by fostering growth, sustainability, and global recognition for the South African wine and brandy industry.
